SALT LAKE CITY — Gov. Gary Herbert has spent more on his re-election campaign this year than all of his Republican challengers have collected.
New financial disclosure reports show the governor has spent $446,126 to date. His five GOP opponents combined have raised less than half that as they prepare for Saturday's state convention. Herbert has taken in $879,231 so far this year, according to his report.
Sports car manufacturer David Kirkham has raised and spent the most among the contenders. His contributions total $123,744, while his expenditures approach $91,000.
Former state representative Morgan Philpot has collected $40,508, while spending $16,642.
State law requires the reports to be filed a week before state party conventions, which are scheduled for Saturday.
Fundraising and spending between candidates for the GOP nomination in the attorney general's race is much closer.
While assistant attorney general John Swallow has raised the most, technology company attorney Sean Reyes has spent more.
Swallow's report show he has raised $453,493 and spent $159,890.
Reyes has collected $331,528, while spending $248,447, according to his report.
