WEST VALLEY CITY - Just like football.

Four months after claiming the schools first state title in football the basketball team continued their winning tradition defeating Brighton 68-38 to repeat as 5A state champions.

The possibility of this moment was enough for Chase Hansen to delay his entrance to the University of Utah.

"I'm glad to be a part of this one. That's why I stayed and played," Chase says pointing to the championship trophy. "A lot people ask me why I'm not up at Utah right now. That's why I'm not up at Utah right now."

Lone Peak looked focused from the start. They shot 57 percent in the 1st half and 9 of 15 from the 3-point line building a 30-point lead at halftime. Nick Emery scored 13 points in the 1st quarter including 3 3-point shots that seemed to shellshock the Bengals. As good as Emery was in the 1st quarter T.J. Haws was even better in the 2nd quarter. He finished the half 7 of 12 from the field and 4 of 7 from the 3-point line with 22 points.

Emery and Haws would combine for 40 points and Knights led at one point in the game by 41.

"This is the greatest feeling ever," Nick said after the game. "Two in a row especially, back-to-back, It's huge." This is the 6th state championship for Lone peak and their 5th in 8 years. T.J Haws gave credit to his coach and hard work for the impressive run of success.

"Coach Lewis is an awesome coach," T.J. says. "We're a tough team, we work hard and I think that is what separates us from other teams."

Lone Peak Head Coach Quincy Lewis has now won 5 state championships which ties him for 3rd in state history.

T.J. Haws, Nick Emery, Talon Shumway and transfer Erik Mika return next season making the Knights the favorite to win a third consecutive state title.
