SALT LAKE CITY -- Three people are out of their homes after a fire destroyed an apartment.

Crews were called out to the Windsor Apartments at 849 E. 600 South in Salt Lake around 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Twenty people were evacuated as firefighters attacked the flames. The fire was mostly contained to one apartment but several trucks were called out to keep the fire from spreading. One tenant's cat was killed in the fire.

"We went ahead and upgraded our typical alarm assignment based on the fact that we had multiple reports of a working fire and because this was an apartment building here," said Salt Lake City Fire Department Capt. Bruce Healy.

The fire destroyed one apartment, and another was damaged. Nobody was injured, though a cat died in the fire. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
