5A playoffs: Despite first half woes, Lone Peak beats Northridge

WEST VALLEY CITY — T.J. Haws and Nick Emery combined for 31 points and 8 steals as No . 3 Lone Peak pulled away in the 2nd half to defeat No. 5 Northridge in the 5A quarterfinals.

Lone Peak jumped out to an 18-6 lead in the 1st quarter but Northridge would rally. They dominated the 2nd quarter outscoring Lone Peak 10-3 and only trailed by 3 at the half.

Lone Peak shot only 32 percent in the 1st half but were a different team in the 2nd making 57 percent of their shots in the final 16 minutes. Northridge couldn't buy a bucket in the 2nd half shooting just 23 percent.

Preston Christiansen led Northridge with 12 piotns. Lone Peak's Chase Hansen pulled down 11 rebounds and held his own against Northridge big men Karson Kasteel and Joe Newkirk who combined to shoot 1-11 from the field.

Lone Peak now moves on to play No. 1 West Jordan in the most anticipated matchup of the year. The two teams will clash Friday in the 5A semifinals at 5:30 p.m.
