Tom Callan, KSL NewsradioThe suspect allegedly passed himself off as an airline insider. For a cheap, low price he promised special fares for trips anywhere in the world.
"The suspect was selling what he was telling people were buddy passes from airlines, and then promising them low-cost flights," said agent Steve Gamvroules with the Utah State Bureau of Investigation.
"When these people were ready to fly, they would contact the suspect and tell them when they wanted to fly. And often times when these people would come back to fly, they weren't able to get flights."
Gamvroules says Gary Gonzales is now charged with 10 counts of theft by deception.
"He was allegedly asking for cash specifically, up front, never credit cards."
The case is in 3rd District Court.
