Jon Dunn ReportingParents of students at West Kearns Elementary are asking why the president of the school's PTA would steal almost $7,000, then disappear.
With two kids going to school at West Kearns, Loyann Finau seemed like a good choice for PTA President.
"When we were even depositing money for the book fair and things like that, she'd say, 'Well, don't you trust me?'" says PTA Treasurer Catherine Berry.
Authorities, though, say Finau stole two checks, writing those for almost $3,000 total. Then the checkbook disappeared.
"The book fair check bounced. And I'm going, 'no, there is $7,000 dollars in the account and the check was for $1,800. No, this isn't right,'" Berry says.
Berry says checks designated for proper PTA use have now bounced. Local schools have organized fundraisers to help replace the money. Charges have been filed against Finau, but authorities say she remains at large.
