ALPINE -- The Alpine School District's language immersion programs are so popular they now have to expand. They are even adding another language for kids to learn.
Currently, the district has four elementary schools that teach kids Spanish and one that immerses children in Chinese. It's the Chinese program that a lot of parents wanted to see expand.
"Literally, there are requests from all over the district to attend that immersion program," said District Spokesperson Rhonda Bromley.
So, they are expanding to meet demand.
"We did apply for two more Chinese immersion programs at two other elementary schools, and one Portuguese immersion program, and we did receive a grant for all three schools," Bromley said.
She said the Chinese immersion programs will start next year at Alpine Elementary School in Alpine and Riverview Elementary in Saratoga Springs. They are introducing the Portuguese program at Rocky Mountain Elementary in Pleasant Grove.
"It's exciting to think that elementary age kids as young as first grade can learn a language," Bromley said.
Anyone who wants to find out how they can get their kids involved in these programs can check out the Alpine School District's website. Bromley says it's even open for kids who live outside of the district.
