MILLCREEK -- Terrifying moments for patrons of a coffee shop in Millcreek as a gunman robbed the business Monday night.
Witnesses tell police a man walked through the front door of The Greenhouse Effect Coffee and Crepes at 3231 S. 900 East around 11 p.m. He showed a handgun and then robbed the register.
He then held the manager at gunpoint and ordered him to a back room, where the safe is located. Police say when the manager couldn't open it, the gunman fled through the back door. Lt. John Barker of the Unified Police Department said officers set up a containment and used police dogs to try to track the robber.
"He went out the back and actually broke down a fence, goes out to about 33rd South and stops. So, I think there was a vehicle parked out there somewhere," Barker said.

Witnesses told police the man appeared to be in his 20s, about 5-feet 9-inches tall, weighing about 230 pounds. They say he was wearing a green bandanna over his face with a dark beanie on his head.
Police are working with the coffee shop and surrounding businesses to try to obtain surveillance video of the crime.
Police say the robber wanted only the contents of the register and the safe. He never tried to rob any of the customers as he ordered them to the back of the shop. No one was injured, and the ordeal lasted only a few minutes.
