WEST VALLEY CITY -- A wanted fugitive is in police custody after being tackled by a police dog.

Sgt. Blair Barfuss of the West Valley City Police Department said officers caught up to Michael Sides Wednesday night around 11 p.m. but he fled in a car. Officers pursued him for about a mile and spiked all four tires on his car.

Sides then ran into a field near 5600 West and 4300 South. Sgt. Barfuss said Sides knew police were chasing him but wouldn't obey their commands to stop, so officers released a police dog.

The dog caught up to Sides in the field and tackled him, forcing the suspect to the ground. Police took him into custody on a number of charges.
