Talk show queen OPRAH WINFREY has quashed rumours that she is to replace three-time presenter HUGH JACKMAN as the host of the 2006 Tony Awards.
The Emmy-winning TV host, who is producing the stage version of her 1985 film THE COLOR PURPLE, insists she will attend the Broadway, New York City, celebration only as a spectator.
Tony Awards spokesperson ALAN EICHORN says, "We don't discuss potential hosts until we make our announcement. That announcement is expected within the next several weeks."
Tony nominations will be announced on 16 May (06). The ceremony will be held on 11 June (06) at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. (AV/WNWA/SC)
