SALT LAKE CITY -- Some TRAX riders are going to have to pay to park before they board the train.
UTA has decided its new parking garage at the Jordan Valley TRAX station, located at 3400 W. 8600 South, will be a pay-to-park lot. Motorists will pay $1 per day, or $15 for a monthly pass. Parking in the garage on weekends and holidays will remain free.
- Monday through Friday
- 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Free Saturday, Sunday and holidays
- $1 per day
- $15 per month
UTA police will patrol the lot Monday through Friday to make sure people are paying. To make a payment, there are kiosks on the lower level of the garage that require a credit or debit card. Motorists who have only cash can use 40 parking spots outside the garage that will remain free.
UTA spokesman Gerry Carpenters says building a parking garage costs a lot more than the traditional open lot.
Other UTA TRAX parking lots around the Salt Lake Valley remain free. UTA has no plans to turn them into pay lots.
