Mary Richards, KSL Newsradio A bizarre chase involving machetes and hogtying ends up with one man going to the hospital and another man going to jail.

Salt Lake City police officers showed up to the 7-Eleven on Emery Street and California Ave. to find a man hogtied in front of the store.

"Before our victim was tied up, he was being chased by two guys with machetes," said Detective Jeff Bedard, spokesman for the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Bedard says they found one of the suspects nearby looking for a cell phone he lost during the mayhem, but no one would cooperate, and the victim refused to point fingers. He says the men were pretty drunk, possibly resulting in their impaired judgment.

The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries he suffered from jumping fences while being chased.

Officers ended up arresting the suspect on outstanding immigration warrants instead of the machete-hogtying fiasco.
