BOUNTIFUL, Utah (AP) -- A Utah father and son are facing several charges for allegedly preparing false tax returns.
Last week, an indictment was handed down against Lynne K. Mercer and his son, Lance Mercer. Both men face several counts of preparing false income tax returns between 1999 and 2002.
The duo operates Mercer Consulting Group in Bountiful.
The indictments allege the pair used several different methods to reduce their clients' tax liabilities. They include creating false deductions and claiming personal and nondeductible expenses as business expenses.
The Mercer's say they're innocent and will fight the charges.
If convicted, both men face up to three years in prison.
