(KSL News) A new sewer treatment plant could soon be built on the banks of the Jordan River.

Utah Water Quality board members gave the South Valley Sewer District a $22 million loan to help fund a high-tech $134 million treatment plant.

It will serve the southern third of the valley.

Officials say it's needed to keep up with a growing population.
