SALT LAKE CITY -- A famed paleontologist, originally from Salt Lake City, has passed away at the age of 64.
J. Keith Rigby was renowned for his discovery of ‘Rigby's Rex,' one of the largest and most complete specimens of Tyrannosaurus Rex yet found. It was discovered during an expedition that he led in northeast Montana, near the Fort Peck Reservoir.
Rigby Grew up in Salt Lake City, and attended BYU, graduating in 1971. He studied geology, and became professor at Notre Dame in 1982. He was a well-loved teacher, earning several awards for both his pedagogical in teaching and his scholarly work.
Rigby is survived by his wife and six children.
