BLUFF, Utah (AP) -- All-terrain vehicles can no longer go off-roading in a southeastern Utah canyon.

The Bureau of Land Management has closed the canyon near Bluff to all motorized vehicles in order to protect the 1,800-year old Anasazi ruins.

The ban covers nearly 1,900 acres of Recapture Canyon below the Recapture Dam near Blanding. Signs will mark the area that is off-limits to ATVs and the BLM will have an officer available to patrol the grounds.

Federal officials will hold open houses in Monticello and Blanding next week to explain the ban to the public.
