TAYLORSVILLE — Police have arrested one man and are searching for three other people in connection was the shooting death of a 35-year-old man Saturday afternoon.
Just after 4 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting at the Summerwood Apartments, 5624 S. 1900 West, and found Anthony Fili dead in his apartment. Fili had been shot at least once in the chest, said Taylorsville Police Sgt. Tracy Wyant.
Following a brief chase on foot, police arrested Rodney Amato Liti not far from the apartment. Liti, 32, was attempting to flee the scene in a burgundy Dodge truck, Wyant said. The man also was in possession of personal property belonging to Fili, as well as methamphetamine, police said.
Police also found two handguns near the apartment, Wyant said.
Witnesses told police Liti and Fili were involved in a physical altercation that ended when Liti pulled out a gun and shot Fili. Witnesses said Liti then took items from Fili's pockets, Wyant said.
Liti was booked Sunday into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, restricted person in possession of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, obstruction of justice, evidence tampering and resisting arrest.
Police are still looking for three other persons of interest in the case. They're described as a 6-foot Polynesian man with black hair, brown eyes and a heavy build; a 5-foot-8 white woman with blonde hair and a thin build; and a 5-foot white woman with black hair and a thin build. All are believed to be between 25 and 35 years old.
