(KSL News) -- Catching a cab in Salt Lake City may soon cost more. Taxi drivers have asked the city council to approve a 50 cent increase in the basic cab rate because of high gas prices.
The owner of Yellow Cab says cab companies have to buy gas every day, no matter what it costs.
All three cab companies in Salt Lake City -- Yellow Cab, Ute Cab and City Cab -- want the 50 cent increase to last at least six months.
All the money from the increase would go directly to the cab drivers.
