KLICKITAT, Washington -- A hole was blasted into the base of Washington's Condit Dam Thursday in an attempt to restore the fish habitat.
Pacificorp contractors used 700 pounds of dynamite to blast the hole, emptying the northwestern lake.
For the first time in 100 years, the White Salmon River flows free.
The river's trout and salmon will no longer be blocked from the 33 miles of habitat they once populated.
The demolition of the dam, which is more than 12 stories high, won't be completed until next year.
