Sandra Yi ReportingThree men tried to rob a Salt Lake City bank, again, but this time, police foiled their plan. Police and the FBI had inside information on where the suspects might be. So after the robbery attempt this morning, police were able to find them quickly.
Police believe the suspects are serial bank robbers. They hit the same Key Bank twice last month, once forcing people at gunpoint into the bank vault. Today they didn't make it past the front doors.
Det. Dwayne Baird, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "For some reason, these individuals, probably getting away with it one time, thought they could come back and do it again."
But their planned heist was a bust. This time, police were waiting for them.
Det. Dwayne Baird: "We had information that these individuals would be in this area."
Police say the men were ready to hit the Key Bank, slipping on masks outside. But workers recognized them from a recent hold up.
Det. Dwayne Baird: "They locked the doors before the robbers could get inside."
The suspects escaped in a red Jeep. They switched getaway cars in a different neighborhood. That's where officers caught up to them. They arrested Isaac Ibarra Mireles, Louis DeloSantos Ramirez and Jose Pepe Ramirez.
Det. Dwayne Baird: "Because we had so many officers down here and had this area surrounded, it was very clear that these individuals were not going to get away from us, so they gave up peacefully."
This Key Bank was recently hit twice before, police suspect by the same guys.
Det. Dwayne Baird: "They have displayed some intent on violence in the past."
Surveillance cameras picked up the masked men who herded bank employees and a customer into a vault.
Det. Dwayne Baird: "Whenever you are in a bank and somebody starts moving people around at gunpoint, it's dangerous for everyone, and the community at large is going to be at risk."
It's plenty of reason for police to want the suspects behind bars.
Det. Dwayne Baird: "It's a great relief to us to have these people off the street."
The three men are from Salt Lake City. They've been charged with aggravated robbery for this morning's incident. They are suspects in the others, but have not yet been charged in those cases.
