OGDEN — A paraglider broke both his ankles early Friday when he crashed shortly after takeoff.
A 31-year-old man was running to take off from Malans Peak, at the top of 29th Street in Ogden, when either the wind shifted or something else switched that caused him to go down rather than out, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther.
The paraglider was "speedgliding," Lowther said, when he crashed.
The injured paraglider, as well as the three friends he was with, called 911 about 7:15 a.m. Lowther said a Life Flight medical helicopter assisted rescuers get on and off the mountain. They had to carry the injured man several hundred yards up the mountain where the helicopter was able to land before flying him out.
The injured paraglider was removed from the mountain about noon and flown to McKay Dee Hospital.
