Tom K! / Shutterstock.comSALT LAKE CITY — An employee of a rental car company used Facebook to get a vehicle back from an alleged car thief, police said.
Jennifer Marshall Hansen, 42, of Sandy, rented a 2009 Ford Explorer on Aug. 25 from Affordable Rent-A-Car, 4000 S. State, but failed to return it as scheduled Sept. 1, according to charges filed Wednesday in 3rd District Court.
Employees at the rental car company made numerous attempts to contact Hansen and find the vehicle, police said. One employee found the woman on Facebook and "friended" her. He then arranged a meeting with Hansen, according to the charges.
Hansen drove the stolen vehicle to the meeting, and the employee called police.
She is charged with one count of theft of a rental vehicle, a second-degree felony.
