SALT LAKE CITY — Two teens were shot Friday night following an argument on a sidewalk.

The boys, ages 17 and 18, were walking near 640 North Lamarne Street (1130 West) about 10:45 p.m. Friday when a silver Volkswagen pulled up next to them, said Salt Lake City Police Lt. Brian Purvis.

A man got out of the vehicle and began arguing with the two teens, Purvis said. The argument culminated with multiple gunshots being fired, striking both pedestrians. Purvis did not know if either of the teens were armed or if the man from the car did all the shooting.

Both boys, reportedly shot in the back and legs, were taken to a local hospital in critical conditions. Purvis did not have an update on their conditions Saturday. A possible motive was also unknown Saturday, including whether the incident was gang related.

The gunman ran back to his car after the shooting and drove away. It was unknown if there was anyone else in the vehicle.

Anyone with information on the shooting can call police at 801-799-3000.
