(KSL News) -- Some elementary students showed up for class, only to find someone had vandalized their school.
Someone climbed the school's roof to spray paint messages on Ridgecrest Elementary School near 7200 S. 1800 East in Holladay.
Salt Lake County Sheriff's office says it's not graffiti that's common to street gangs.
Sgt. Paul Brenneman, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office: "The type of graffiti that we're seeing here is not you're typical gang related graffiti, it's tagged graffiti, which is more artistic in nature, which suggests that we have kids who are probably pretty artistic, talented kids that are up to no good."
The vandals took their time on the graffiti, even using stencils in some places.
Officers are investigating evidence left behind.
