(KSL News) -- It's one thing to play doctor with a toy, it's quite another thing to do it in the operating room of the hospital.
Kids of all ages became "surgery assistants" today at Primary Children's Medical Center. Alongside doctors, they saved the lives of model patients.
The Cardiovascular surgery unit borrowed a cow's heart for practice.
After practicing with the heart and tissues, they scrubbed up and performed a mock appendectomy.
Some kids really knew their stuff..
Robbie Peters: "And that blue thing right in there, that's the vein that carries blood, and that red thing up there is called the cor- choroid plexus."
The hospital hopes this "hands-on" event makes kids less scared to go to the doctor--and maybe even join the medical profession someday.
