OGDEN -- Two car thieves in Weber County probably would have gotten away if they hadn't stolen a vehicle almost out of gas.

Police say Eric Thomas and Matthew Bedel broke into at least eight cars in Riverdale on Wednesday night before stealing a car that had the keys left in it.

They then drove to Ogden where they broke into close to a dozen more cars. By then the owner of the car had reported it stolen - and an Ogden police officer spotted it coasting to a stop at a light.

Thomas and Bedel couldn't get it going again - because the tank was empty.

Both men were taken into custody and now face numerous charges.
