BULLFROG, Utah (AP) -- A powerboat traveling more than 30 mph slammed into the canyon wall on Lake Powell, killing a 20-year-old passenger, the National Park Service said Sunday.

Rangers tried CPR, but Danielle Sorensen of Delta did not respond Saturday and was declared dead by a nurse who was flown to the scene.

Six other people on the boat, including the driver, were seriously injured but were expected to recover, the Park Service said.

They were flown to medical centers in Colorado, Utah and New Mexico.

The driver apparently was distracted when the boat crashed into the red-rock wall, said Kevin Schneider, a spokesman for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
