OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- Ogden officials envision transforming their city into the ski hub of North America.
And now they say they have physical evidence that that is happening.
Since June 2004, six ski companies have established, or begun the process of establishing, a presence in Ogden. They range from industry powerhouse Rossignol to startup snowboard company Kahuna Creations.
Mayor Matthew Godfrey says the response has been better than he ever would have imagined.
He has meetings scheduled over the next two weeks with three more companies. He did not provide company names and said no deals have been made. But he said they could bring a mix of equipment manufacturing and warehouse and distribution operations, as well as dozens of jobs.
Specialty apparel maker Descente North America, which made the move to Ogden in 2004, had its best sales year ever in 2005.
Company Vice President Curt Geiger says at least some of that success has to be credited to the move to Ogden and access to snow.
He says a lot of retailers visit the company while coming to ski.
