Shelley Osterloh ReportngSpeedskater Chad Hedrick has made quite a name for himself at the Torino games, winning gold and bronze medals. Hedrick has been the focus of a lot of media attention, but Shelley Osterloh has known him for a while. In fact Shelley and Chad did a little shopping together.

Not every story we do is about important things; this one is about a common activity around here, a little sight seeing, and a little emergency shopping for an important item -- socks.

The Price of Socks in Torino

There's plenty to see and do in Torino. Everywhere you look there's something to take a picture of. We walked and talked, dodged cars and sometimes traffic cones.

Hedrick says while medals are the goal, the real payoff is in memories.

Chad Hedrick, Gold and Bronze Medalist: "This is going to be a chance to make memories for a lifetime with all our loved ones and people who helped you and supported you along the way."

One of those people is his friend, Derek Parra.

Chad Hedrick: "For Derek and I, this is very special moment. You know he's taught me so much along the way and with all his experience with the last Olympics in Salt Lake, just to have a training partner like that really guided me along the way and put me in the seat to do something really special."

But first we have to take care of business. Hedrick is out of socks. Unfortunately, the only shops we found were expensive, even the socks. And while they seemed impressed to meet Hedrick, there were no discounts.

Chad Hedrick: "I got to get four pair, I'm not spending 40 euros on socks."

So we did a little window shopping instead. Eventually, we are out of time, but on the way back Hedrick ran into teammate Chris Witty. He tried to enlist her help

Chad Hedrick: "If you can buy me some socks, that would be awesome."

So now Chris is on a mission for socks and we say good bye.

Now to the important stuff. You can watch Chad Hedrick in his fifth event tonight on KSL 5. If he wins a medal he will become only the third American to win three medals in one Olympic Game. The event is the 10k and it's a tough race.
