Shelley Osterloh ReportingIn Women's Bobsled Team USA won silver and in Speedskating, American men brought in a Silver and Bronze.
Orem's Shauna Rohbock is a silver medalist tonight, winning the first medal at the Games for any of the sliding sports. And in the 1500 meter Speedskate, one Olympic champion retired while two other Americans took second and third to a Torino hometown favorite.
Four years ago, Shauna Rohbock got bumped from the Olympics, but in Torino she drove USA Sled number one with teammate Valerie Flemming to a silver finish. The National Guard member and two time soccer and track all American draped herself in the red white and blue.
Shauna Rohbock, Silver Medalist: "It's true you work your whole life for a moment like this, and it's amazing."
Teammates Jean Prahm and Vonetta Flowers finished sixth.
In Speedskating the men's 1500 meter race was touted as the showdown between two American gold medalists. Chad Hedrick holds the 15OO meter world record and won gold in the 5000. Shani Davis who took gold in the 1000. But it was the Italian skater Enrico Fabris who broke the American hold on gold medals at these games, becoming the first non-U.S. skater to win one in an individual race. Less than a quarter of second separated the three skaters.
Davis and Hedrick played down their differences.
Chad Hedrick, Bronze Medalist: "I think him and I got wrapped up in each other, trying to beat each other this week rather than going out and skating our race. It was a little bit of distraction."
Shani Davis, Silver Medalist: "People want to make this thing up like we are rivals. We are rivals yes, but at the same time we are fighting for the same thing, we are fighting to try to get a gold medal."
Later Davis complained that Hedrick didn't shake his hand after the race.
Also competing was the man who won gold in the 1500 meter four years ago. Derek Parra finished 19th, but still ended his skating career like a champion.
Derek Parra, US Speedskater: "I was disappointed in my race, but you know, I skated the best I could today, with everything that's gone on. I just rested up and tried to skate my heart out and I had a good time doing it. It was nice to be here."
So Shani Davis ends his Olympic events with a gold and silver, Hedrick with Gold and Bronze, but he still has one more event: the 10K race. And Shauna Rohbock is celebrating.
