SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Salt Lake Valley Health Department is warning business owners about bogus inspectors entering various salons and cosmetology establishments.
The incidents follow a handful of occurrences in 2010 when individuals claiming to be health inspectors entered various restaurants and asked for payment of a fine.
The department cautions businesses that real inspectors will always display their credentials, ask for the manager and state the purpose of the visit. Business owners also should be aware they may accompany inspectors during any visit, and that genuine inspectors will review the results of the visit and leave a copy of the inspection report.
Those who suspect fraudulent activity are advised to contact the health department's Division of Environmental Health. Business owners also are asked to be cautious when interacting with these individuals.
