SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz may be closer to a decision on whether to run for Sen. Orrin Hatch's seat.
ABC News reports Chaffetz may make an announcement some time after Labor Day. He told ABC he hasn't made a final decision but he has moved from being a "definite maybe" to "probably."
"If it was just about taking the path of least resistance, I would just stay in the House," he said. "But that's not necessarily where I am headed."
He has upped the rhetoric lately, saying people are ready for a change, Sen. Hatch has been in Washington too long, and they disagree on a lot of issues.
ABC says if or when Chaffetz gets into the race, "it's sure to be one of the most contentious primary fights in Congress."
Chaffetz has picked up a lot of national attention lately in the debt ceiling debate. Thursday night he refused to go along with the latest plan put forward by House Speaker John Boehner.
Chaffetz says he can't raise the debt ceiling without Washington fundamentally changing the way it does business.
