This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
It was 50 years ago that Edward Hill and Bob Taylor purchased a small air conditioning company and created Climate Control Incorporated. That decision worked out better than they could have anticipated since their company, now known as CCI Mechanical, was listed among the top 600 specialty contractors in the nation.
This is a $70 million mechanical contracting and construction operation that provides air conditioning, plumbing and industrial piping to commercial and industrial properties throughout Utah. They have in-house engineering, installation and maintenance teams that can complete the entire design and build process from start to finish.
One of their major projects is City Creek Center in downtown Salt Lake City. This is a major endeavor for our state and by the time it opens next March, around $3 billion will have been invested in the project. Other projects CCI Mechanical has completed include the EnergySolutions Arena, the five-star Montage and St. Regis resorts in Park City and the Oracle Data Center on the west side.
You might be interested to hear that green building is an important focus for this company. They have LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, accredited professionals. In recent years many of their clients have been focused on sustainable design to help them save on energy costs, and it's best if this starts from the ground up, during the design and building process. CCI's systems are literally saving their clients thousands of dollars each month, even if Utah is known for having some of the lowest energy costs in the nation.
In this industry reputation is paramount for success, so they believe in doing it right the first time and stand by their products. That's probably why 90 percent of the business comes from repeat customers or through word of mouth.
Did I mention CCI Mechanical also has around 300 employees? This includes fieldworkers, office staff and engineers who design, manufacture and install equipment from the ground up. Many of them have been with the company for 20 years or more.
