Samantha Hayes Reporting
A lot of the Olympic action will be happening outside of Torino and high in the Italian Alps. Samantha Hayes traveled to the town of Sestriere, where most of the alpine events are scheduled.
Sestriere is the highest location of the games. It hosts an Olympic village and most of the alpine events including the giant slalom. Getting up there is a bit of an adventure, but take a look at the view in this story; it's well worth the trip.
Laura O'Hindle, Scotland: "On the streets of Sestriere, everything you would imagine about an Italian mountain town comes to life."
Sestriere was built solely as a ski town by the family of FIAT entrepreneurs. Now it will add Olympic Venue to its list of attractions, and the town is busy getting prepared..
Peccolo Massimillano: "Yeah, so, I'm so excited and a little nervous."
Security is in place for an estimated 1700 people who will be staying in town, many already here.
Rob Merrilees, London Media: "Anything you want, people are willing to put themselves out."
Nicole Mcmanus, Scotland: "It's hard to believe you are in Italy. It feels like you are somewhere in Switzerland or France.
It's really not far from France, located in the western part of Italy. It is 62 miles from Torino, a good portion of it on narrow mountain roads.
