WEST JORDAN — Utah's fourth-largest city will welcome a new city manager in August.
The West Jordan City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved the hiring of Rick Davis as city manager, replacing Tom Steele, who retired in March.
Davis has been serving since 2008 as town manager in Fountain Hills, Ariz., a municipality of roughly 25,000. He also has experience in municipal administration in Utah, previously serving as city manager in West Point and assistant to the city administrator and community affairs director in Sandy.
With a population of nearly 105,000, West Jordan will be the largest by far of any city in which Davis has served as the top administrator.
"I'm looking forward to this new challenge," he said. "This will be a wonderful experience as I transition to such an exceptional community as West Jordan. My family and I are excited to move back to Utah."
Davis emerged as the top choice from a pool of 53 applicants. The selection process included several interviews, written evaluations and an open house, where city leaders and members of the community had a chance to meet and evaluate the top three candidates, Mayor Melissa Johnson said.
"We are so excited to welcome Rick to our city," Johnson said. "We have been impressed with Rick’s depth of experience and are expecting great things from him in the years to come."
Davis earned his master’s in public administration from BYU’s Marriott School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in public relations, also from BYU. He is a credentialed manager with the International City/County Managers Association and a member of the Utah City Management Association.
