Alex Cabrero ReportingA good secretary can type 50, 60, maybe 70 words a minute. Double that and you're on a completely other level. We met someone who can.
Whether video games, sports, or just watching television, when classes let out at Springville Middle School, students have places to be and things to do, but 6th grader Kaisa Goodman would rather stay and practice.
Kaisa Goodman: "I guess I'm not a video game fan."
Not unless you count typing as a video game.
Kaisa Goodman: "I just read the words. You read them and you type them down."
Sounds easy enough, until you notice Kaisa's fingers are moving a little faster than most people. Her teacher noticed it, but never thought her words per minute would more than double his. While most professional typists bang out 60 or so words per minute, 12-year old Kaisa hit 137 without a single spelling mistake.
Dennis Lundgreen: "She's a very, very good typist."
And that 137 set a school district record.
Kaisa Goodman: "I was like, wow, I can't believe I did that! It was a really awesome feeling."
She's been typing since before kindergarten and wants to do it as a career.
Kaisa Goodman: "Secretary sounds good. It's a good job for me since I can type."
And that's A-OK with her mother.
Tiina Goodman, Kaisa's Mother: "We joke about she could be Bill Gates' personal secretary (laughs.)"
Kaisa Goodman: "I gotta wait a couple of years."
Even more amazing is that when kaisa types, she doesn't have any errors, which is simply a lot more than most of us can say. Because, of her score, Kaisa also helped her classmates set the school record for average words a minute. Their class average is 58-words a minute.
