SALT LAKE CITY -- Ground water levels are becoming a problem in parts of Stansbury Park and Grantsville.

A few homeowners already are pumping water out of their basements as a massive amount of snowpack sits in the nearby mountains.

According to the Tooele Transcript, the Mining Fork measuring station in the Stansbury Mountains reports snow levels at 897 percent above normal. Randy Julander, snow survey supervisor at the Salt Lake Office of the Natural Resources Conservation Service told the paper, "That is 28.7 inches of water when the average is 3.2."

Both the Grantsville and Settlement Canyon reservoirs are spilling over. An overflow pipe is designed to carry the extra water to a gravel pit west of town. If that isn't enough, water could end up flowing down 700 South when the snowmelt picks up.
