(KSL News) The U.S. Senate has passed Senator Orrin Hatch's resolution honoring firefighters who have put their lives on the line in recent weeks.

Hatch says as many as 15,000 firefighters are fighting large, uncontained fires in the West.

Hatch says, "Without the efforts of these heroic firefighters, Utah's and the nation's losses could have been catastrophic."

More than 55,000 fires have been reported across the country this year alone.

More than 4,000,000 acres have burned, 660,000 of which were in Utah.
