Shelley Osterloh ReportingA Park City native has been named to the 2006 US Olympic Ski Team. Ted Ligety has been skiing as long as he can remember. Now his hard work is paying off as he competes in his first Olympic Games.
Park City's Ted Ligety got his first taste of skiing when he was just two-years old. He began racing when he was just 11 and he's dreamed of going to the Olympics ever since.
Ted Ligety, Olympic Ski Team: "It was cool growing up here. Watching all of the World Cups definitely inspired you."
Now Ligety has become one of the top competitive ski racers in the world. He earned his first World Cup medal in December at the Beaver Creek, Colorado slalom. Now he's hoping for success in Torino.
Ted Ligety: "I hope to ski fast and put everything on the line. It would be cool if a medal came out of it, but if it doesn't, it's also a good experience for me."
At 21, Ligety is the youngest member of the men's Alpine team. Ligety credits much of his skiing success to a relatively injury-free body, which he keeps in shape by not only his training program for racing, but by playing tennis, soccer and water skiing.
Watch for him in the slalom, Giant slalom and combined.
