NEPHI - There was a major drug bust in the small town of Nephi Thursday morning. Dozens of officers served arrest warrants on people suspected of being drug dealers.
Twenty-three people were arrested in Juab County, the majority of them in Nephi. It's the result of a year-long investigation into people selling drugs.
A joint drug task force involving the county sheriffs of Juab and Sanpete Counties began the roundup of suspected drug dealers just after 8 a.m. Several people were arrested simultaneously and all of them, we are told, face felony charges of drug distribution.
Undercover investigators have purchased drugs at least three times from each of the individuals being sought. Many of them have young children in the home and those children were turned over to relatives.
The local sheriff says the minority of people in the county are involved in drug use, but he says this raid proves there is a drug problem there.
Fifteen months ago, a similar operation was held in Juab County, with close to 50 arrests. Police say none of those people busted last year are involved in Thursday's arrest; these are all new people accused of selling drugs.
Police also arrested four people who they believe are responsible for a rash of car break-ins in Nephi in recent weeks. More than 100 cars were broken into and right now police are going through the stolen items.
