(KSL News) The driver of a semi truck which exploded and gutted a section of Highway Six in Spanish Fork Canyon has pleaded not guilty to charges connected to the accident.
Travis Stewart, of Idaho, is charged with causing a catastrophe, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
Stewart's rig was carrying 36-thousand pounds of seismic explosives last summer, when it jack-knifed and skidded across the road, starting a fire that ignited the cargo. The blast left a 70 foot wide crater in the road, mangled the nearby railroad tracks, started brushfires in the mountains and injured at least ten people.
Officials believe Stewart was speeding.
