MAGNA — Fire damaged a house in Magna early Tuesday morning. The three people who live there were not home at the time, but three of the family's four pets are missing and may have been caught in the fire.
Just before 4 a.m., emergency dispatchers received a 911 call of a fully involved kitchen at 3744 S. Washington Loop Road (7730 West), said Unified Fire Authority Capt. Cliff Burningham. When crews arrived, however, they found the entire house was fully involved.
Neighbor Megan Frazier said, "By the time we got out here the whole roof on that side was knocked out and the bottom was starting to go. The only room left was the garage."
Fire crews went into a defensive mode to try and protect surrounding structures. An RV next door suffered minor damage.
No one was home at the time of the fire. A pet cat was found alive, but three other pets were missing as of Tuesday afternoon.
Investigators believe the blaze started when a couch caught fire on the second floor, but what ignited the furniture was still undetermined Tuesday. Burningham said the fire was being classified as accidental.
Burningham said the home suffered extensive damage, which is estimated to be about $180,000.
