WEST VALLEY CITY — A suspected heroin dealer running from Cottonwood Heights Police crashed into another car in West Valley City Thursday.
Cottonwood Police Heights say an investigation lead them to the suspect near 4400 South and 3200 West. They saw the 19-year-old man make a deal. But when they tried to stop him, he took off.
Not long after, the man crashed his vehicle into another, knocking it on its side. West Valley City officers responding to the crash saw the suspect as he tried to get away again.
"When the suspect saw [the officer], he attempted to flee," said Cottonwood Heights Assistant Chief Paul Brenneman. "To prevent him from doing that, and doing this again down the road, the officer used his vehicle to force the (suspect's) vehicle off the road."
Officers stopped the suspect and arrested him. They also confiscated a couple dozen bags of drugs.
"It is a problem for us. We see kids using pills and then transitioning, when the pills aren't available any longer, to the cheap street drugs which are readily available," Brenneman said.
The 19-year-old man's name has not been released, but police say he has been booked into jail on drug charges.
The driver of the other car was taken to the hospital but is in good condition.
