MIDVALE -- KSL broke the news that a mother was reunited with her child who was wandering alone in Midvale Friday afternoon. It was apparently a miscommunication between the boy's mother and his babysitters that led to the incident that had a whole lot of people worried.

Now, everyone's just grateful the toddler -- 19-month-old Skyler -- is home safe.

Around 1:30 p.m. Friday, a boy believed to be about 2 years old was found wandering the street, alone, near 700 W. Wasatch Street.

"He was walking right down the middle of the street," said Sgt. Torin Chambers with the Midvale Police Department. "The neighbor said that a car had to go around him to keep from hitting him."

Neighbors picked the boy up, but when they couldn't find a parent they called police -- who couldn't figure out who the boy belonged to, either.

KSL broadcast the breaking story live during its 5 p.m. newscast. Not long after it aired, the boy's mother sped over to the Midvale Police Department and asked KSL TV crews standing outside to help her find an officer.

"A family member saw something on the news and called her," Chambers said.

"He called and said that one of my kids, ‘cause I have three kids, is out," the mother said.

Police say she dropped her two little boys off at their grandparents' house while she took another child to an appointment. That's where the confusion began.

"Sounds like it was kind of a mix up," Chambers said. "The babysitters didn't know that she had brought both children over. So they were watching just one of them and the other one got away."

Little Skyler is the one who got away, but besides giving everyone a scare he's now back home safe with his mother.

"I'm just going to go home and spend time with my child," she said.

Police say they're going to speak with the grandparents to figure out what happened, but they don't plan to file any charges against the mother.
