PROVO -- After guiding BYU to its most successful season in decades, coach Dave Rose has been a candidate for various jobs around the country. He was contacted by Oklahoma officials about the school's coaching vacancy last week, but told them that he was not interested (UNLV's Lon Kruger took that job days later). Rose also reportedly turned down North Carolina State as well.
As reported by the Deseret News last week, BYU has offered Rose a significant pay raise. ESPN's Andy Katz is reporting that Rose "would have considered leaving the Cougars despite the school's most successful season since the Danny Ainge era. But BYU showed a high level of commitment it hasn't in the past with the men's basketball program, and offered Rose, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation, a significant pay raise. Terms weren't disclosed, but Rose is likely to accept it."
Katz also addresses the likelihood of Rose's top assistant Dave Rice, taking the UNLV head coaching job. According to the Las Vegas Sun, Rice is the top candidate.
