TAYLORSVILLE -- Taylorsville police shot at a man who refused to drop a rifle he was carrying.

Police say they got a call of an unwanted man at a home near 1000 West and 4800 South around 6 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, the man was gone.

As police were getting information from the person at the home, the man returned with a rifle in hand. Police told him to drop the rifle but he refused.

One officer fired a shot in his direction. The man then dropped the rifle and obeyed police orders.

The man is being questioned by police. The officer who fired his gun has been put on paid administrative leave, pending a routine investigation.

No one was injured.
