WEST JORDAN — Three finalists for the vacant superintendent position in the Jordan School District have been announced by the school board. None of the candidates come from within the district.

The finalists are:

• Gregory Hudnall, an associate superintendent in the Provo School District.

• Patrice Johnson, an associate superintendent in the Clark County School District in Las Vegas.

• Samuel Ray, a current principal of Provo High School in the Provo School District.

The board began its search after long-time Superintendent Barry Newbold announced his retirement in September. The board initially planned to have a new leader in place by the beginning of the year, when Newbold's retirement took effect. After multiple public hearings, the board extended its search through March 18. David Stoddard has been serving as interim superintendent since Jan. 1.

The public will have a chance to meet the finalists at an open house Thursday, April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the district's auxiliary services building, 7905 S. Redwood Road, in the north auditorium.

The new superintendent will be announced at an April 19 school board meeting.
