CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- Two police dogs are getting used to their new duds -- bullet-proof vests the canine officers will wear in the field once they're used to them.
Castor and Gino, who work for the Iron County Sheriff's Office and Cedar City police, received the vests from a non-profit group that is trying to outfit police dogs throughout the country.
"We're still in the introductory phase," said Iron County Sheriff's Cpl. Dell Schlosser, Castor's handler. "They have to be comfortable working in it. It's equipment like anything else."
The vests include an agency insignia and a reflective patch that says sheriff or police. The handlers can also remove the ballistic panels from the shell if the dogs get too warm.
