OGDEN — A fire significantly damaged a business in Ogden Saturday afternoon, causing an estimated $750,000 in damage.
Witnesses called in flames and smoke coming from Ogden Auto Body Inc. at 2050 Wall Ave. just after 1 p.m., said Ogden Battalion Chief Steve Splinter. Three ladder trucks sprayed water on the two-story brick building from above, and firefighters had the blaze "knocked down" within about 45 minutes, he said.
The 22,000-square-foot building housed a car restoration shop, and several old cars were inside awaiting work, Splinter said.
A large amount of flammable material, including paint, primer and thinner, made for lots of flames. The battalion chief estimated the building received about $250,000 in structural damage. The rest occurred to property inside.
They were able to rescue a dog and we were able to give that dog to the owner.

No one was inside the building at the time of the blaze, nor was anyone inside an apartment connected to the west side of the building. First-responders were able to rescue a dog from the apartment, which was only damaged by smoke.
"They were able to rescue a dog and we were able to give that dog to the owner," Splinter said.
It's not clear if the apartment was occupied or if it served as a break area for employees of the business, he said.
The building did not collapse and could potentially be repaired. Splinter said he didn't know if the building was insured. The owner told firefighters there was about $1 million worth of property inside the building at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
