Last week I filled in for Maria Shilaos on Thursday afternoon (she had filled in on the morning show for Amanda while Tim filled in for Grant b/c G&A were up late at Stadium of Fire but I digress.) What a fun time! First because Scott Seeger is fun to work with, despite his "blog humbug" attitude, and second because I got to see more of my collegues. I've been a morning reporter now for a few years, so I work 4a-noon. I love the mornings and the awesome people I work with. I sometimes see the Nightside and afternoon drive folks at staff meetings, but on Thursday I got to see them in their element. Let me tell you, the news product is like sausage. You don't want to see how it's made. Just kidding, come in for a tour.
I think I'm filling in again for Maria next week so I can see Scott, Michael Castner and the rest again in all their glory. It's really a seamless baton hand-off. I used to be on the track team in high school, and they let me do the 4X100 relay once. That's right, once. Apparently my hand-off of the baton could have gone more smoothly. But the switch from our Afternoon News to the Nightside Project at 6:59 goes very well. I just duck out of the way and they come blasting into the studio and out of the gates at 7:00.
By the way, Happy 1st Birthday Nightside! Now give me some pizza.
